“A lady never shows her soul outside the boudoir.”

Shonda Rimes, Year of Yes

In  the past, the boudoir was a place charged with sensuality and shrouded  in mystery, a place reserved for aristocratic ladies and sophisticated  upper-class women.

Traditionally the boudoir was a bedroom or dressing room, a private, intimate space where a woman could be with herself, or spend time with a close friend, pamper and prepare, or withdraw and unwind.

Occasionally, she might invite someone close to join her, share that special space – occasionally, perhaps…

In this near-sacred space women would express and nourish their feminine nature, indulge and celebrate their erotic side.

They were the first influencers and their place in society and history was reflected inside the mansions and palaces of the day. Indeed, Madame de Pompadour's rooms in Versailles were situated directly above the royal premises of the Louis XIV, the Sun King. Accordingly, only a few select individuals were invited to the boudoir, where many historically important stories from Paris to Vienna were written in between intimate sensual encounters and pleasures.

In its simplest form, boudoir photography is the romantic, sensual portrayal of a woman in exquisite lingerie and posed in an intimate setting.

While this is the most basic, traditional definition, it really doesn’t go very far in describing what boudoir photography is and what it can be.

Because the boudoir is timeless, it’s both traditional and contemporary.

It draws on traditions going back hundreds of years and thus represents a rich well of inspiration and new ideas. It reflects our desire to discover and indulge something exceptional and highly rewarding; to create and be part of an extraordinary experience; to share special moments with people close to us.

Amanda’s Boudoir is a special place, because it take us out of our everyday time and place.

It’s a place where we project and act out our personal thoughts, feelings, and fantasies.

So it’s less about the boudoir itself, and more about what happens there – and what you, what we make of it.
